Food & Drink at Trinity

Trinity is known for its excellent quality of food and meals are available for all students in the College Hall during term time.

Breakfast, Brunches & Lunches

These are all served in Hall, cafeteria-style where you choose your food and pay per item. The food is heavily subsidised for Trinity students to make it very affordable - you’ll be hard pressed to find a cheaper lunch in central Oxford! There’s always an MCR contingent sat in Hall so feel free to join them.

Breakfast is served every weekday in Hall, and usually includes sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, poached egg, fried egg, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, black pudding, pastries, porridge, fruit, cereal, tea & coffee, and juice. Depending on choices, it usually costs around £3-5.

Brunch is served later in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays, and has a great reputation for its diversity of choices, including all of the above plus pancakes, waffles and a larger range of pastries. Depending on choices, it usually costs around £3-5.

Lunch is served every weekday, and has a genuinely impressive range of choices: usually around 10-12 hot dishes catering for a range of dietary requirements from nut-free to vegan. Plus, a large selection of desserts. Depending on choices, it usually costs around £5.

Dinners & Formals

Dinner is served every day in Hall, but its format varies from day-to-day:

Informal Hall is served on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. It’s the same set-up as lunch: a canteen-style service where you pick the food you want. There’s no need to book in advance, and depending on choices it usually costs around £5.

Formal Hall is served on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays. It’s a sit-down three-course meal which includes table service, and usually finishes around 8pm. Gowns are required (over normal casual clothes) and you can bring up to two guests. Formal Hall must be booked online in advance, and the menus are available online a term in advance. Formal Hall is around £6 for Trinity students (for a 3-course meal!) and slightly more expensive for guests.

Guest Night is served on Friday evenings. It’s a four-course black-tie dinner with gowns, usually ending around 9pm, and is where the chefs showcase some of their finest dishes! We recommend signing up as soon as the bookings get released 2 weeks before, otherwise you may miss out! Menus are available a term in advance, and can be very impressive. Guest Night is around £25 for Trinity students and guests, and you can only bring one guest.

Beer Cellar

The Beer Cellar is Trinity’s bar. It’s run by a professional team, and is heavily subsidised during term time for students.

Recently renovated, it’s a great spot to hang out before and after college formal dinners. Make sure to say hi to Ian who’s usually behind the bar!

Out of Term Meal Times

Out of term, Hall serves breakfast and lunch, but dinners are more limited. Details vary, so make sure to check your emails for the most up to date information!
